Procedure Overview PDF Print E-mail

The following is a brief overview of Adult Stem Cell Therapy using Adipose or Fat derived stems. The fat stem cells come from the patients own abdominal region. There are about 25 million stem cells in 5 ounces of pure fat.

History

For over 50 years, Stem Cells have been used to treat patients with conditions such as Leukemia and Lymph Node Cancer. This is know as a bone marrow transplant, using Mesenchymal Stem Cells ( MSC's) . Today, these MSC's are now harvested from the patients own fat, activated and simply returned. These Fat derived stem cells are used in the treatment of a wide range of conditions with positive and encouraging results.

Steps of Fat Stem Cell Therapy

1. A small quantity of fat is taken from a person using a mino-lipo procedure, about 150cc.

2. These harvested cells (usually 20-25 million), are isolated from the fat using a dissolving solution. The cells are then concentrated and activated in a standard centrifuge. Next they are put in a normal saline drip and give back into the patient. This is called autologous (patient's own stem cells and DNA) cell therapy.

3. The stem cells go to work naturally repairing the damaged tissue or organ over time, usually 6 to 9 months.
